I was in Ecuador 87-89 and the Rohypnol stuff was still happening although it was more commonly used by
missionaries taking the 16-hr bus ride between Loja and Cuenca. They would take a portion of a pill to sleep on the bumpy ride. I never wanted to try for fear I would wake up ditched on the side of the road high in the Andes or in Peru.

As a side note, a favorite prank of some idiot missionaries was to buy Rohypnol (yes, the date rape drug)
