USNABSTS Walk-on
My apologies, but I watched you guys against USF
I catch a couple of BYU games a year, but rarely watch full games. I didn't watch you guys against USC and Tennessee, but down years or not, those are two heavy hitting teams with unlimited resources, so regardless of the circumstances, those were big wins for BYU. That's a credible performance, regardless of the details. USC freshman QB, Tennessee new coach. Whatevs. You guys beat them. Like I said, I didn't see either game, but I read that you won late, and I just assumed that meant you had played smart, tough, mistake free football and put yourself in a position to win late.

So I went into the BYU vs USF game expecting - well, something totally different than what I saw. I watched the full game BYU against USF with a couple of other Navy FB alumni. We were playing USF the next week, and were casually scouting USF. They usually have a lot of talent, but rarely put it together into a coherent team. Last year we were good, and were hoping that USF was as bad as reported, because we needed an easy win.

Anyway. So we are watching BYU vs USF and sure enough - USF had some talent last year, at pretty much every position other than QB. And.... my goodness were we some very befuddled amateur analysts in the second half. USF QB couldn't hit water if he threw a ball into the ocean and you guys were dropping eight? The best player on USF by far was Cronkrite - and you guys were dropping off the line? At first we thought there was something to it - some angle we didn't see - but what? We were just mystified. How does your coaching staff not see this? USF QB was either playing hurt, or was no good, and you let them run the ball to win in the second half? And it wasn't like the run scheme was complicated, at all. Pretty basic stuff.

Anyway. You had more than enough talent to beat USF - way more than enough - and your coaching staff took the win away from your players. Most of the time you see a coaching staff trying to prevent players from doing something stupid and losing the game in a glorious manner - but for the life of me, it looked like your coaching staff was trying to prevent your defense from doing what they were clearly talented enough and big enough to do.

This game against Navy is one you should win. Not easy, per se, but let's be honest. Not a single player on our offense would make your two deep, and only three of our defensive players would make your rotation, Diego Fagot at LB and both our corners. With us coming in with no spring ball, and no hitting in summer camp, and a new QB, this is a game you should win. I won't spell it out for you, but the formula here is painfully simple for you on defense.

But the fact is - our HC, OC, and DC are all very good at what they do. If we somehow win this game, that will be why.
