Overall looks like a solid spec for an entry level. The one thing I don't like after looking it up is a 2x drivetrain (i.e., one that has a front derailleur).

At that price you might also consider the Trek Marlin 5 (also a 2x drivetrain) or the X-Caliber 7 if you are willing to spend a bit more.

If your kids are on the younger side, you might also consider the Cleary Scout or the Nukeproof Scout.

FWIW my 9 year old son has a Trailcraft Timber 26 and that thing absolutely rips.
