yes to both your questions.
but mesh helps that because you have satellites that are able to communicate (wirelessly) to each other and provide wireless access points as well. This means you wouldn't need wires for the satellites.

Modem -> Firewall (Pfsense) -> 24 port switch -> Netgear Orbi in AP mode.
