On 4th of July we were staying at a friends house and my son rolled out of the
Top Of a bunk bed in the middle of the night. He is 12 and sleeps on a top bunk every night, but the rail on this was lower than his bed.

My wife and I were sleeping in the same room and the sound of him landing woke me up. It didn't wake him up though. We woke him up and checked his arms and collar bone to see if anything was broken - which nothing was. We started asking him questions, and he was confused and had no recall, so it was obvious he had a concussion.

We took him to the ER and they gave him a CT scan to make sure he didn't have any brain bleeding - which he didn't. They told us he needed to rest his brain for double the amount of time that he has symptoms of the concussion. He had a headache for about 6 days, so we had him do brain rest for another week after the headaches stopped. Technically it should have been another 12 days of rest.

They said he should sleep, and avoid activities that cause him to use his brain, such as watch TV (or any screen time) read, schoolwork, sports, etc.

Honestly, the major risk is the brain bleed. I would take him and get the CT scan just for peace of mind.
