I work for a fortune 500 med tech company. The company had to lay off and/or furlough thousands of people this year (the halting of elective procedures hit us hard). We also paid bonuses to those that earned them. The optics may not seem great, but that's the reality. I would argue that I earned my bonus more than I did in other years, because my team and I had to get things done in the middle of a pandemic.
If you want to argue that the managers of the Pac 12 don't deserve bonuses because they under performed, that's another matter, but you'd have to know what metrics their bonuses are based upon.
