The Brett Venables curse. They Stoops chased him out to make room for his
brother and they've stunk on defense ever since.
On a side note, Clemson probably doesn't turn a corner and finally become a legit top ten team without Venables. We indirectly have Bob Stoops to thank for Clemson becoming a perennial power.
