This talk of potential NY6 (albeit a not a great chance) has got me thinking.
Why not join the AAC? Let's say BYU, Boise, and SDSU head over. You make 2 divisions, East and West

East: UCF, Navy, Temple, USF, Cincinnati, ECU, and Tulane

West: BYU, Boise St, SDSU, Houston, Tulsa, Memphis and SMU

Although the NY6 bid is assigned to the highest ranked G5 team, the winner of that conference championship would almost certainly get the bid each year. That is a really solid conference. You take Clemson and UNC out of the ACC right now, and that conference probably out performs it.

In this you have UCF and Boise, who have been ranked every year in recent memory. Cincinnati, Navy, Houston, Memphis, who have been ranked a good deal of the time recently. The rest of the conference can hold their own. Teams like SDSU, Temple, SMU, ECU typically field decent teams.

Honestly, if you thrown in 3 P5's to start off the year (Utah, 1 Pac12, 1 Big12/Big10/SEC/ACC), a BYU team that finishes 11-2 or 12-1 and wins the Conf. Championship game would probably be ranked in the 8-14 range and most definitely get an NY6 bowl bid.

Heck, an undefeated BYU team would probably finish around 5-7 and could be in some potential playoff talks (although not a high chance we would get in).

Being in a P5 conference has nothing to do with results or conference rankings. (nephicoug, Sep 30, 2020 at 1:11pm)
