My dad wouldn't let us shoot at an animal until we could consistently put three
...arrows into a paper plate at 40 yards.
I would think that you could easily be ready by next year. My suggestion would be to go to an archery shop with a shooting range and try out some bows and get tips/suggestions from the pros on proper form & technique, and then buy a bow and shoot at least once a week on your own.
