Vegas doesn’t care about the final score, only that there was equal betting.
So half of bettors think Texas State sucks and BYU is pretty dang good and should cover, while the other half might think the same but that 28 pts is a lot to cover.
Meanwhile, Vegas says thanks for betting, we’ll take our cut which is the same no matter which side of y’all win, and all you losers then fund the winners.
Vegas needs to be fairly close to what the bettors will think about a game, but they don’t give a crap about what actually happens in the game.

Even if that’s indicative of how much better the Cougs are, that’s a crazy spread to expect. Especially for bettors.
