I ask them enough deep questions about their resume to may a judgement about whether I think they lied or embellished too much. If I feel that they can back it up, I trust their resume when I am making a decision. Then I spend the rest of the time on asking them to demonstrate their knowledge and skill.

I find standard interview question only weed out the really bad ones, who would be weeded out with other questions anyways.
