In my opinion BYU is revealing the budget shortfall for two reasons
1. They want to increase The number of donors to the University. Charities throughout the country are experiencing an increase in numbers of contributors and they want to get in on that.
2. they did a lot better than all of the other universities around and they want to
Humble brag a little. Being the first out like this makes that possible
