8th ranking gets us an at large bid to a new years six.

With that we get a chance to play a good team and see if we are really good or not. Current situation BYU has a lot of fire but only gets to play sdsu and another mediocre team in some crappy bowl.
Biggest travesty would be seeing this team not get a chance against a great team.

In theory teams ahead of BYU could “help out” by losing if BYU is ranked 8-9. This was a disaster
