The Lions created the Thanksgiving Day game tradition long ago. It is a Lions
tradition rather than an NFL tradition. Can’t take that away from them. Detroit has a bunch of other Thanksgiving events every year, of which the Lions game is one. Taking that away would be like moving the Rose Bowl to Jacksonville.

The Cowboys copycatted a few decades later, so I could see more of a case for taking them out of the Thanksgiving rotation.
