I don’t think it’s wrong to imply Tom Balked. He did. You know that and I know that. Per Cohen “There was enough interest on their end to go and have some conversations, but they circled back Saturday night saying they wanted to wait on that. So just the timing of waiting for them didn’t seem very realistic, but we didn’t really want to give up that opportunity, either.”

So yes Tom balked, he circled back and that (waiting for word of playoff rankings) didn’t seem realistic to the UW and the pac 12

On Sunday “ It was time to move on from BYU, too, with Cohen and UW unwilling to wait until the release of Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings to continue discussions.”

I also think you are onto something when you say that “Tom was confident enough in a deal happening that he had Kalani bring his players back from holiday break to practice for Washington.”

I think that is the problem. He shouldn’t have been so confident that he would get a deal that he circled back, that he tried to have the game guaranteed, and that he even tried to change the location to be a BYU home game. It’s really not surprising at all that it fell apart when beggars are being choosers.

Interesting to hear how Cohen described SDSU

Cohen praised SDSU athletic director John David Wicker as “just a great, straight-up guy,” and said he was aware UW would be bound to Utah if the Utes came available. But she believes their discussions helped streamline SDSU’s eventual agreement to play at Colorado this weekend.

“I just wanted to make sure we had a team,” Cohen said Friday afternoon. “You just don’t know what’s going to happen at the conference level. San Diego State was awesome, super flexible. They wanted to have their student-athletes to have a chance to compete, too.”

Those remarks are pretty telling. Just remember Cohen called BYU. That’s what she wanted. It’s pretty clear BYU over played its hand.
