Since announcing we'd go independent ten years ago, BYU had been ranked exactly once - at #25 in 2011 for a single year. In that same 9 season span, Boise finished the season ranked 6 times (#7, #8, #16, #18, #22, #23, #23) so they've certainly been more relevant on the field. They also had the advantage of being in a conference which gave them more relevance even when they weren't great.

But BYU also had the whole hubbub about Big 12 expansion, where pretty much anything happening at the P5 level is a bigger deal and more relevant than whatever Boise does. Plus, this season we're clearly pretty relevant.
