If Miami & ND make the playoff, the Orange Bowl will have to take Miami or UNC
It doesn't open up a spot, if anything it takes one away (if you assume that Clemson & Norte Dame are getting in regardless). Last year the Orange Bowl took #24 Virginia, the lowest ranked NY6 participant ever.
As I see it, BYU is competing with Georgia, Miami, and the Big 10 #2 team for the last 3 spots. It seems to me that Miami may be the easiest team to leapfrog but it only works if they aren't guaranteed an Orange Bowl bid by contract.
BYU fans should be routing passionately for Clemson & ND not to both make the playoff and for UNC to beat Miami.
