I had access to the team pre-grimes.. The 'culture' issue you talk about were leftover from Bronco (or caused by his leaving). It also had to do with a coaching staff that Kalani didn't pick.
The current BYU culture is Kalani's. He's the one that kicked players out of the program, benched players, and recruited HIS guys to build the team as it is now.
I'm going to assume you don't have 'regular access' to how the team works now, but Grimes was just a cog in the bigger machine that is BYU Football. Roderick, Fisi, Lamb, Unga, Clack... etc. have had more to do with setting the tone than Grimes.
Grimes actually took a small 'demotion' in 2019 due to some of the losses (and play calling). Yet he still took credit for the offense that A-Rod and Fesi ended up running (the entire offense was run by 'committee' since grimes was hired)
