on the most cost effective but still safe place to stay?

I have been twice...once at the same age as them someone gave us discounted tickets to some place off the strip and it was the absolute sketchiest place we have ever tried to sleep.

The other time was with a partner group and they put us up in one of the big Casino hotels.

Any option somewhere in between?
