We decided to go to the old tech conference/show in Vegas at the last minute (years ago). This used to fill the entire town. My boss got "space" at the last minute from a travel agent she knew. It turned out to be in the "Downtown-er hotel (the er was burned out). The first night we heard shooting down the street at a nonviolence rally that was going on somewhere (coupe of different guns). The bus stop was on the widened street right outside our unit. We heard a bus stop and someone was arrested against the wall of our room! The cop asked the guy "how long have you been out?" The next morning my wife walked out to the car and some homeless guys were scrounging in the dumpster. They started following her. She was pretty upset.
Luckily we ran into someone we knew from a professional association whose company had rented rooms in the Luxor for the time, and they were not all being used. He said we could use one of their rooms. My wife said "bless you .. . "
