One of my boys started wearing glasses around 8. When he turned 11 he wanted contacts and the doc talked us into trying ortho-K. I was skeptical but I'm a believer now. He wears special hard contacts at night (sleeps in them), and takes them out in the morning and has normal vision throughout the day. Another benefit is that it is supposed to slow the decline of his vision, so hopefully when his vision stabilizes in a few years he will be at a -5 or so instead of a -8 or so, which is where he was headed. Something to think about...
