Might also want to consider the Glock 42 (.380). Very nice pistol. Our daughter just got one. Some people don't like
the smaller caliber but for close range it is more than adequate. Statistics bear this out (# of people that die from .380 wounds).
Plus, being a smaller round it is easier for people who aren't used to shooting pistols to handle while shooting.

My wife wants one mainly to take when she goes hiking and is out in the sticks quite a bit. Seems smaller is best here?
