You can't just jump into this area of research with any medical background
Medical research is highly specialized. So maybe COVID-19 will spur a new generation of young grad students interested in coronaviruses? Maybe?
But even so, that will take awhile.
It's not like some other fields where if you see the grass is greener, you can just jump into it and learn on the job.
