I was being sarcastic in this post in conjunction with my response to you below. It's about big picture optics. This is
a world-wide church, where members outside the US, who don't care two hoots about American college football, are paying tithing out of their humble means. BYU is a church-sponsored private school that is subsidized by those tithing funds. It's contradictory to suggest a mere football coach should be paid megamillions in this context, just for the sake of being in the ultra elite of college football, a worldly enterprise that only entertains, and doesn't improve people's lives in areas of areas of substance. The program on most measures is a success (even if that's not enough for the most rabid amongst us), and the brethren and most fans are reasonably satisfied with that. Some might point to Notre Dame or Baylor as faith institutions that invest heavily... well that's just not us, and it won't change substantially any time soon.

Speaking of Notre Dame being sponsored being sponsored by the Catholic church and they pay big time to be in the elite category... Well, they have a longer tradition and it's a higher priority for them. The Pope lives in a royal and opulent residence in the Vatican with substantial pomp and circumstance as well. Pres Nelson nor any Prophet pines for that lifestyle. Consistent with that world view, paying a Church employee who happens to coach football a mega $$ contract just isnt likely to happen..
