On the other hand, Ruth's peers weren't hitting home runs

and I doubt the ball was juiced like it is today. The pitchers were throwing mostly junk pitches. Ruth hit more than 2X more home runs than the next most leader in multiple seasons in a row. He was the most dominant player in the league by a wide margin.
