This guy was an RM, married in the temple, had served on the Stake High Council, and he was also a practicing dentist. I honestly don't know why someone in his position would choose to start smoking cigarettes. I'm also pretty sure that he picked up heavy drinking at around the same time.
My RM/temple married cousin decided to start drinking as an escape (not socially) in his 30's, and he is now in his early 50's and is a full-fledged alcoholic.
Unfortunately, bad habits can be developed at any point in your life.
