How do you pay an hourly wage for a job that's productivity is driven by...
...people self-determining to pick up certain fares and drive them certain places. So - can I make an hourly wage while electing not to pick up some of the potential riders who have submitted a request for a ride on the app?

In a similar vein - I know most truck drivers are paid by the mile, particularly long-haul truckers. I understood that Uber and Lyft worked similar to that - with pay per ride being determined by the distance driven. How do the trucking companies get away with paying by the mile versus an hourly wage if Uber has to pay an hourly wage?

This stuff just doesn't make sense to me.
