My parents solved this problem perfectly:
They told us that the tooth needed to be super clean for the tooth fairy, so we should soak them in water in the bathroom. As kids we would use our parents master bathroom to get ready for bed at night, so there would just be a glass with a tooth in it in their master bathroom. Easy peasy for them. Next morning we’d find a small stack of quarters in the glass of water.
