I hate "best zelda" polls.....I always analyze it way too much
Ok here we go. I'm going over the ones with the most to offer, and unfortunately for some, the handheld and retro ones just don't hold a candle to the new ones.

Starting with the most recent BotW. This game captured what the creator intended for Zelda games to be, exploring a vast world. Unlike other massive worlds out there in gaming, BotW felt more completed, as in, there was less dead space and always something to do, but not too much to seem crowded. I've logged almost 150 hours on the game and my son and my wife are also playing their files, and they still find things I never did (which in turn makes me boot up my save file and go and find what they did). The Music is minimal in comparison to the other games, but it sets a good tone and doesn't overpower the main focus on the game, which is the world. I like the "dungeons" and the quests leading up to them, but I easily see how because of how atypical they are, many won't like it. I do hope the sequel goes back to a more structure dungeon system. Also, this game increased the difficulty for players, as Zelda games really aren't known for their difficulty. This game is the best from a "World" standpoint.

Skyword Sword: I hope those of your who are first introduced to Zelda via BotW give this a shot when it comes out later this year, as this is the more "traditional" zelda game, with a lot of BotW features, with some "unique" combat. Was not the biggest fan of the motion control in this game, but this game did some things very right. This one may have one of the better Stories. You really get the fleshing out of the main characters and their development. Solid villain, but far from the best. Music was fantastic in this one, especially Ballad of the Goddess. Dungeon design in this game was solid, but the areas were very repetitive, and not all of the equipment was good. The timestone pirate ship has got to be one of the best dungeons in Zelda, but the boss was horrible. Consequently, I hated Ancient Cistern, but its Boss is one of the best in Zelda. Lot of highs, lot of lows, including the battery in my Wiimote.

Twilight Princess: This got my vote, because it had the most right and the least wrong. Great dungeons, great bosses, solid overworld, least annoying partner, fabulous music, great story, great final boss. Some of the Wolf sequences got a little annoying, but the HD remake on the WiiU fixed a lot of it. There isn't much that Twilight Princess does better than any other Zelda game, but its the most consistently great. If we had to do a "best overall", this gets it.

Wind Waker: Its considered one of the best Zelda games, and I still think its underrated. This may have gotten the Best vote overall, except for the sailing and Triforce hunting, and the overall difficulty (too easy). The HD remake's Swift Sail makes this a lot better, but its still annoying. Wonderful bosses, likely the best Music in the series, great story, smooth combat. The graphics grow on you, but have its own beauty.

Majora's Mask. This game is in a special group of games that I have titled "Remarkable game, but I don't think I'd want to play it again". This is probably the most unique Zelda game out there, and the lore, the mechanics, the story, and everything surrounding it are so interesting and unique its worth experiencing. That being said, it is very taxing, and getting the True Ending with the 100% mask completion and Fierce Diety is draining. Stone Tower is one of the best dungeons in Zelda, including its music. Darkest Zelda game by a landslide.

Ocarina of Time. This one wins on Iconic. 3D Zelda games, and 3D adventure games in general are defined by this game. Phenomenal music, story, villain, bosses, world, everything in it is great, and has likely the best Mood and Ambiance. However, it is a very slow start, and playing as Child Link is not fun. The child dungeons are alright (except Jabu Jabu), but once you become Adult Link, you never want to go back. Unfortunately, you need to, several times, and its annoying. The DS remake fixed a lot of the tedium with the quality of life improvements (having hotkeys for the ocarina and boots so it doesn't waste an item slot was massive, and facilitating the Water temple was very helpful). That being said, my opinion of it is still based on how much I played it on the N64, and screw the water temple and everything about it....except Dark Link, that was awesome. Hey! Listen! can also die for all I care.
