Mark is a hot commodity and is smart enough to add to his reputation to make a jump if he cares to. Maybe the pros are where he desires, but maybe not. More than one pro GM has ruined a coach's career with ego drafts which doomed the team and made his 3-year term an unhappy career-killer. So let's look at the college landscape.
1) True blue bloods, with success by a parade of top coaches, having a rabid fanbase and donors, currently still in the mix competition-wise, even if having a down year: Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina.
2) Ohio State and Michigan sniffing. Decent histories with a ton of resources.
3) Teams no longer at that level, but which had glory days spanning more than one coach: UCLA, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Arizona. No longer a top job for various reasons.
4) Teams which had/have a dominant coach but not performing at the peak anymore, institutionally second bananas in their own conference: Indiana, Duke
5) Forget any Big-East team, or a place like Syracuse or Florida.
Now ask yourself, would Mark Pope be interested in anything but a sure thing? Would he want to re-build Arizona, or be the next guy to slog at Indiana or UCLA?
