I sense Pope is probably pretty open with his rotation schemes right now with the players. And his rotation scheme looks pretty set to me, even though it might seem a bit helter-skelter to some. From what I can see:
Pope's given Connor a pretty set allotment of time — which can get curtailed or expanded a bit depending on how he plays. This is pretty much regardless of matchups.
On the other hand — in regards to Johnson & Knell — their time is greatly affected by matchups & performance. Against athletic & taller wings, Johnson's minutes are high even if he's not playing all that great on offense. And in these circumstances if he's scoring & facilitating well his minutes can be among the top-3 on the team. The way he's playing right now it's clear Pope wants him facilitating more & taking only the open shot.
BUT against teams in which the off guard isn't particularly long or athletic (like last night) — it's Knell rather than Johnson who gets the first dibs at the lion's share of the minutes. And unlike Johnson, Pope really wants him to shoot. When he's out there I think Pope has given him as green a light as any to let it go. And if he's hitting them & holding his own on defense — his minutes can be among the highest on the team.
