your DNS requests are visible to the VPN. Whether or not you gave them your name, it wouldn't be hard for them to figure it out if they wanted to. The point is, it's no more secure than using your ISP. I'd venture that your ISP is more trustworthy than some random VPN service who is allowing you to send them all your packets out of the kindness of their hearts.
