I'm thinking it will be Romney. Here's why. Down-field throws. People freak
out about Zach's downfield accuracy because in an of itself its amazing, but beyond just the freak show nature of that completion percentage it's impacts on every other aspect of the game is what ARod is focused on. It's not a coincidence that Allgeier had the season he had or that Rex broke out. The spacing of the defense (lanes and angles) opens up dramatically when you are completing passes downfield. ARod understands this and has referred to it repeatedly. He will go with the guy who is the most dangerous deep thrower. That keeps the safeties out of the box and moves the linebackers downfield. Right now, I think it is clear that Romney has the edge there and it may be that Conover is closest to him in this specific area. Jaren has clearly evolved and improved in this area as well but while he is no longer a conservative, check-down guy who can pick up a first down with his feet, he's going to have to convince ARod that he is a reliable defense stretcher 20+ yards downfield. I think they all know this is the standard. it has been exciting to see Zach re-establish this BYU standard and all four guys pushing for it. It is BYU football of old and it opens up EVERYTHING else. It's very similar to what Quinn Snyder has done with the three ball and the jazz. It changes the spacing, it changes everything. It doesn't matter how good of a point guard you might be, Quinn is not going to make you the starter if you can't shoot around 40% from 3. ARod is going to start the best deep thrower.
