I've been through similar trouble
My company tried to hire a mid range systems engineer (IT stuff) a little less than 10 years ago. Expected salary was around 85k/year. We struggled to find any resumes that looked good.
One resume included a long bit about experience herding goats.
Hardly any IT experience was even listed.
