I live out of state and wanted my kids to be around LDS
kids. One daughter couldn't get into BYU, so I sent her to Dixie. I can understand why someone would see UU as the second best alternative.
After she graduated from UVU my daughter talked about going to the U for graduate school as she was not willing to give BYU a chance to reject her application twice. I told her if she went to the U she was on her own. She mistakenly thought I was joking.
Getting rejected by BYU meant she will never become a fan of the school. I suspect a lot of kids have the same experience.
