Covey was never a QB and was playing out of position basically the entire time he was in high school. BYU never offered him until way too late in the game. So Covey goes to Utah and plays very well. Whiff.

Reid was another BYU legacy player who was tearing it up at Timpview. BYU offered Kaufusi - Reid's backup - long before they offered Reid. So Gabe goes to Stanford and plays well. Whiff.

Utah has recruiters going to Orem practices frequently, but BYU rarely has had a presence until recently. Think of all the talent that Orem has sent to other schools.

BYU's recruiting has gratefully picked up, and I expect BYU's recruiting rankings to begin to creep up beyond the transfer market.
