I'm in NE WA, 40 miles from Canada. We have bear, mountain lion, etc.
Bear and mountain lions are less common than some wild critters here, but they can be found fairly easily. I've also seen lynx and bobcat in the area. Takes a lot of patience or dumb luck to find them.

There was a moose on the hillside by our property a few days ago.

My son spotted a bald eagle sitting on the ground in a field back in early March.

We've seen as many as 10-20 deer on the property at dusk during the summer... more in the winter. The most we have counted in one evening was nearly 90. We see Columbia Black-tailed deer and Rocky Mountain Mule deer. I've just missed hitting deer with my truck numerous times. My wife nailed one with her car. It was a small black tail so the damage was minimal, broke part of the grill.

We have skunks galore. I've seen a couple of Sail Rabbits, but no live ones except some wild ones in town.

I've seen one wolf from a distance. Some nearby cattlemen have more than a passing acquaintance with one local wolfpack.

We have several flocks of wild turkeys. I almost hit one that we nicknamed "Fatty". The flock of about 40 flew across the road in front of me. One turkey, Fatty, trailed the rest and barely made it high enough to clear my windshield.

In February we had several large flocks of Canadian Geese that took up residence in the area. Normally they migrate on south but they seemed to know that it going to be a mild winter. We know they were Canadian because when they honk, it sounds link, "Honk-eh".

I've yet to spot any elk.

We have to put 10' fences around the gardens. I planted some blueberry bushes and Concord Grapes. I have to build a 10' fence around them this week.

We don't hike without at least bear spray for protection. A large caliber pistol is nice to have, too.

The local predators seem to enjoy the large variety of available munchies and we don't want to be on the menu.
