The cat has been indoor/outdoor with a cat flap since we got it as a kitten over a year ago, and my wife has never liked having a cat, but tolerated it. It’s been a very good cat for the past year. Friendly, tolerates the kids abuse very well, no potty issues, or scratched furniture.
Two days ago it got a nasty pus filled infection from a cat fight and bled and dripped all over the house. Got that fixed by the vet. Yesterday, it brought a pigeon into the house and spread feathers all over and I had to come home midday from work to catch the bird and kill it. Tonight we heard some noises downstairs and it had led a stray cat into the house and they were fighting in our living room.
Anyway, HCBW has had enough (understandably) and she says we either need to get rid of the cat or find a way for it to never come into the house again. Problem is, even if we get rid of the cat flap I feel like the cat will still find a way in every day with our kids opening the door to play in the backyard all the time.
Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Or do we have no other choice but to have our kids say their goodbyes?
