Before getting rid of the cat I would try closing up the cat flap.
Yes, the cat will still come in with the kids, but hopefully you will be able to monitor it better and keep the birds and other cats out.
It might solve the problems you are having.
Is the cat fixed? If not, getting him/her fixed might also help solve a lot of problems.
