Directly ask the surgeon why the discrepancy in opinion.
Let her explain what she sees. If not a total tear, can it just heal with conservative treatment?

The cynic in me says follow the money to determine whose opinion to trust

Easiest would be to get a second read from another radiologist.

This also would be fairly easy. Especially since most Rads are in a group

I had inconclusive test results, so they opted to scope initially to determine the damage

I'd ask about the discrepancy. Also, that's bad news.

I’ve had two ACLs and two meniscus tears in the same knee, am in my mid 30s

That's an MCL, not an ACL

I would trust the source that has nothing to gain. Anterior drawer test should

The ortho is the specialist. Performing unnecessary surgery is malpractice

Well said. People have no clue how much scrutiny there is from so many

A surgeon looks at films differently than a radiologist

Yep. Did you know studies show your biggest risk factor for surgery is your zip

I'd get a 2nd opinion for sure. If surgery can be avoided, that is the best

Interesting. I would assume it’s pretty clear.
