there are some ideas there that could be integrated to improve the sport.

First, expand the league by 2 teams to bring the total to 32 teams.

Then adding some sort of mid-to-late season "split" may make the later season more intriguing. Perhaps you play each team twice (62 games) and then segregate into playoff teams and non-playoff teams (20 and 12), then for the final grouping you get the following:

Bottom 12 teams play a round-robin tournament (22 games) where the final standings determine draft order (best team gets the best chances at the top pick, etc. with all the first 12 picks determined via lottery)

The top 20 teams play their final slate of games (with the record being added to the record of the first part of the season) to determine playoff seeding. Then have the top 12 get first round "byes" and the bottom 8 having a best-of-three play-in series for the final 4 playoff spots).
