That's what our old neighbor's son did
This kid was pretty enterprising, and he started a lawncare business when he was in high school. He owned multiple mowers, trimmers, etc., and even had some people working for him during the summer. He put himself through college that way, and after he graduated, he decided to do it for a living--at a much larger scale. His business is seasonal (based in Columbus, Ohio), and he hires a sizeable crew (mostly college kids) to work for him during the summer on lawn and yard maintenance. Besides mowing lawns, he also offers fall leaf cleanup (a big deal in Ohio), mulching flower and tree beds in the spring, lawn aeration & fertilizing programs, and landscape construction. During the snowy months, he offers snow removal services. He has done a really nice job of creating a thriving year-round business.
