...way of doing things. He's a Lavell disciple. I think he purposefully kept his coaching role separate from his Dad role when it came to his kids on the team. You never heard even a whisper of a rumor that he used his position or status on the team to benefit or advocate for any of his kids. Reynolds Sr was true blue through and through. Even with the rift between offensive coaches regarding which QB to start, Jake Heaps or Riley Nelson (which got pretty intense) you didn't hear Reynolds air things publicly.

At any rate, not sure how this subject turned to Matt's dad, I didn't see him mentioned anywhere in this thread. At any rate, I don't see how someone could make much of an argument against the notion that OL coaching at BYU has been superb under Grimes and not as superb in the years between his 2 stints. He had two 3 yr stints at BYU over the OL group and to date I believe has developed and prepared more OL's for getting into the NFL than any of his OL coach successors combined in the 11 or 12 yrs between his 2 stints.

I don't think it's too hard to see that there was a fall off in OL coaching after Grimes left prior to the 2007 season. I think things got better when Anae hired 2J in 2013 but things improved significantly when Grimes came back to BYU as the OC and brought in his own OL Coach and once again put his stamp on that unit.

As for Matt, he came to BYU as the #4 OG prospect in the nation and his on the field performance early on earned him a number of accolades and attention from NFL scouts but after 4 yrs in the program he digressed, fell off the NFL draft radar and couldn't even stick on a roster after graduating. He's not blameless but when did you ever hear of an OL player digressing so badly and falling so far after spending several seasons being coached by Grimes?
