The Normandy scenes accomplished that earlier on.
So hard to watch, but so incredibly well done. And based on eye witness accounts. I've read a lot of books about what happened on the beach and as I was watching the movie I was mentally checking off the deaths in my minds--"Yep, read about that one" or "yep a bunch of those happened."

The stabbing scene later was kind of a made-for-the-movie drama. It was terrible. And of course there was plenty of hand-to-hand combat throughout the War, so I am sure stuff like that happened. But that particular scene was more fictional to me. The beach scene felt like I'd been transported in a time machine.
