To not consider the customer experience when you’re spending billions in public funds is a massive fail.

It’s not just one thing either. The security line the other day when I fire was looped around the entire baggage claim. Thousands of people trying to funnel through a rope line that’s maybe 50 feet wide is a design fail. Early mornings when first flights are all loading up is the worst.

Then there’s the walk to the B gates. Why not just put the tunnel to B right in front of the grand entry do you don’t have to walk half the A terminal to reach it. That alone would cut the walk in half even without a tram or moving sidewalks. It ducks both ways too. Last time I flew home to SLC my I still had to wait over 30 minutes to get my last bag in baggage claim even after making the long walk from my B gate. Guess the bags have to go as far as I did. In the old terminal the bags were often coming out on the carrousel just a few minutes after I got there. Made for a quick exit.

The single stop for the parking shuttle is also an issue. Several times I’ve flown in and had to fight a large crowd just waiting in line to catch the bus when I had just flown in on one of the last flights of the day. It’s not like they don’t know the flight schedules months in advance. How hard is it to have enough busses running to handle the load from a couple late flights so the customers don’t have to stand in a huge line in freezing temps at 11pm to get to their car and get home.

B terminal feels like an afterthought when it comes to food too. Plenty of options in A but not much in B. Only one store to get a soda and no DC.

I’ve flown in and out of SLC hundreds of times in my career and it was always one of the most efficient airports in the country. Not so much now.

The designers of the airport get an A for look and feel and F for function. No biggie... a few more billion and several years will fix it all.
