Don't give it back to him. We had similar issues and behavior as well as

imagination and playing improved dramatically without the iPad. Though the first week was rough. We now let our kids play on an iPad on Fridays evenings and Saturdays only. They are used to it and it is so much better for them to have limited opportunities to use it.
