I just wish more people would realize that we are currently out of the “club”,
whether we want to admit it or not. Being an Independent and scheduling big names for exhibition games during September and October doesn’t somehow mean we are part of the club.

Having a big fan base doesn’t make us part of the club.

Having a lot of AD revenue doesn’t make us part of the club.

Getting seen on ESPN doesn’t make us part of the club.

We are not and likely will not ever be part of the real “club”. No P5 wants BYU, with all of our baggage.

And with that said, even in our best years (like last year) we will win a bunch of games and then get to the end of the season, only to be reminded by the committee that we aren’t part of the club and anything they give to us as an Indy, in the form of NY6/at large CFP bids, has to be taken from schools who ARE part of the club. And that is never… going… to happen. Period. It just isn’t.

To me the Indy vs. AAC debate to this point has been a matter of preference. I see the writing on the wall about our lot in life and would rather play for the highest level available to us (NY6) than sacrifice that for 1-2 more high profile exhibition games during the season. But I can see where others, like LiveCoug, disagree.

But if the CFP expands to 12 and includes a G5 autobid and BYU still remains an Indy it will be a catastrophic mistake on BYUs part and doom the program to complete irrelevance for the foreseeable future, because we will NEVER have a shot at one of those at large bids and everyone knows it.
