You forget that TCU already had the inside track. Being in Texas, willing to

Play on Sunday, no lightning rod honor code, no aversion to alcohol sponsors, and an AD that schmoozed a key decision maker over alcohol. TCU was way more convenient for the Big 12. They were the simple answer. BYU wasn't.

Similar things, other than geography, can be said about West Virginia.

Bronco has said that Sunday play was a big obstacle.
