After listening to today's media day and hearing fan reaction, I don't think everyone fully understands the risk of remaining Independent for BYU. Many are simply thinking BYU needs to win enough to be ranked 12th or better and they are in. However, please think about this for a few moments:
After the 6th Conference Champion auto-bids, there will be only 6 playoff spots left. That means BYU has to compete for those 6 spots with the rest of the college landscape. That means BYU has to compete for those 6th spots with every P5 conferences 2nd and 3rd place teams.
- Do you think for one minute the SEC will not take 2 , 3 or maybe even 4 of those spots?
- Do you think for one minute the Big10 is not going to take 1 or 2 more of those spots?
- Do you think for one minute that if Notre Dame has a good year, they aren't taking one of those spots? (remember, they can't take any of the 6 champ auto-bids)
- Do you think for one minute the Big12, ACC and Pac12 are not going to fight to get at least one more extra team in?
Where does that leave BYU trying to get to that 12th seed? Good Luck with Independence!
You guys need to push your leadership to realize that the AAC is the best true path to the Playoff for BYU.
