who probably said in the past . . . “Indy would be so nice if BYU just had some type of NY6 tie in … a la Notre Dame and the ACC. If BYU could just get something like that with the Big 12, I’d say BYU should remain Indy for the long haul like Notre Dame.”

Now, it’s announced that SIX FREAKING CONF CHAMPS will get into the playoff every single year . . . not a NY6 bowl . . . the playoff! (Cue Jim Mora) . . . and now we’re hearing “well, BYU still wouldn’t win the AAC so it’s a moot point.” Yet these types think the AAC schedules would suck (but, so sucky that BYU wouldn’t win much and probably wouldn’t even win a conf championship). Then we’ve got some who talk about Indy BYU going 11-1 or 12-0 and how that might get BYU one of the six at large spots….MIGHT. (But, again, BYU wouldn’t be good enough to ever win an AAC title.)

So, you’d think these posters were all Indy4Ever lovers and wearing Indy pajamas, but then when you mention BYU’s long term plans (and our AD saying he would like to be in a conference) you hear things like “well of course Tom Holmoe, the BYU AD, said he wants in a conference. He wants to be in a P5 conference.” Yet few will publicly admit BYU has any real shot at getting in a P5 conference, yet they say BYU wants in a P5 when BYU claims a conference would be good.

In other words, your logic will fall short for some here and you just have to realize that some have been chugging the Indy Kool-aid for the past decade and think ESPN treats us like kings. They don’t. Some here had to see the sad report recently that ESPN has been paying BYU peanuts and those of us who knew that already would always get blasted when trying to explain that Disney is a business and not a charity.

So, you’re right. Not everyone fully understands the new system. If they do, they must believe that BYU still has a shot at getting in a P5 because if you ask them why our AD says he wants in a conference they say it’s a P5 conf that he’s referring to. But then it’s hard to get anyone to admit publicly that they really do think BYU will join a P5 anytime soon.

Then there are some who just think playing our Indy schedule is like playing a NY6 bowl because we can play some P5 schools and sometimes even in NFL stadiums (not sure if some realize BYU can still have P5 games as an AAC conference member). It’s like some are so caught up in the P5/G5 labels that they just want so badly to be called a P5 and be in a P5 conference but deep down they know that ship has sailed so they cling to Indy and that BYU can’t technically be called a G5 so it’s like we’re close to having that P5 label!
